CRAZINESS!!!

Can I just start by saying that this was perhaps one of the best weekends ever?!?! Instead of a typical service project, we spent Friday in Boston for our big ass AmeriCorps pep rally with hundreds of AmeriCorps peeps from around Massachusetts. We listened to some speakers in the morning who basically told us that we are the best, and then did an easy service project kicking the shit out of some Japanese Knotweed in the afternoon...how sweet is that?

Anyway, Friday night was our fabulous Halloween party out in Wellfleet. Now, we basically have some type of party just about every weekend, but I would have to say that this one was the best we've had so far. My wonderful Bourne girls and I dressed up as contestants in the best pageant ever. I was Miss Behaved...quite appropriate, don't you think? ;) We had Miss Match, Miss Guided-complete with maps, Miss Fit, Miss Treated, Miss Tress, and Miss Informed...and I must say that we all looked fantabulous!

Now of course, the rest of the costumes were great as well...we had the gang from Clue, Mario and Luigi, some rednecks, a pirate, a wizard, and some superheros among others. Pretty sweet! So obviously for Halloween we had to do something a little different and crazy, and Jae certainly rose to the task by making an awesome ice luge. Despite my years of drinking experience, I have never before participated in the ice luge experience, but I can now attest that ice luge is awesome!!! Especially with raspberry vodka...yum! People were luging all sorts of stuff...beer, wine, you name it, we drank it. It was fantastic!!! As if that weren't enough, we followed up ice luge with a karaoke party that would rival the best of them. It was wicked fun, easily the best Halloween party that I have ever been to. I had a few heart to heart conversations, some of which are a little fuzzy, but that happens. I took crazy amounts of pictures, Liz made a video of some karaoke, which I have yet to watch, but am sure will be amazing, consumed quite a bit of alcohol, and basically just rocked out. You know it's a good night when you recap in the morning and find out you did all sorts of things that you can't remember, hahaha!!! PS, sorry if I woke you up Amber!!!

WTF???

So sometimes I can't help but wonder at the craziness that is my life...everytime I think I have things figured out, something random happens that makes me question it all over again. WTF??? I'm 24 years old and I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up...is that bad? Sometimes I think I know, but in reality, I have no idea. There are so many things that I'm interested in, I just don't know how to choose one to focus on. Then of course there are the social aspects to consider...again, sometimes I think I know what I want, but then more shit happens, or doesn't happen, and I start to wonder all over again...GRRRR!!! Anyway...these are my thoughts as I sit here, somewhat intoxicated while everyone else is asleep...

Haunted???

So once again, let me reiterate that I love my life. In addition to the previously mentioned craziness of Friday night's birthday celebration, this weekend was the Wellfleet Oysterfest. Some of my beloved AmeriCorps peeps were running in the 5k Shuck 'n Run in the morning, so Becca, Eric, and I got our asses out of bed and drove out to Wellfleet to cheer them on...unfortunately we couldn't find the race when we got there, so by the time we showed up it was over...oh well, we tried! After our triumphant runners changed and whatnot, we made our way back up to the festival to wander around. Highlights: taking a picture of Shane and Dave with the Sausage King (complete with crown), Dave licking Mel's arm to get a temporary tattoo to stay on, seeing someone dressed up as "the fairy dogmother," and of course the Shuck-off. After an hour and a half of grueling competition, the only woman in the contest was declared the winner after shucking 24 oysters in 4 min and 52 seconds. OhYeah! To top off a fantastic day, a bunch of us went out to watch a gorgeous sunset over at Ryder Beach where I discovered what could possibly be one of my new favorite drinks...Captain Morgan and apple cider. Props to Molly for coming up with that plan...I will forever be indebted. :)

Now, some of you may know that I am pretty much crazy about ghosts and hauntings and other paranormal phenomena, and if you didn't, then you do now...so the other night, a bunch of us went to a presentation by the guy who started the Cape and Islands Paranormal Research Society. Btw...this guy is friends with Jay from Ghosthunters...How sweet is that?!?!? Anyway, despite the fact that his public speaking was not quite fantastic, the talk was pretty cool. He told us about some hauntings and paranormal shit that has happened around the Cape, including a cemetery that has a demonic presence outside trying to get in! So of course I want to go out and find some of these crazy haunted places. I'll let you know what we manage to find...

Oh What A Night...

Last night was perhaps one of the craziest nights I've experienced thus far on Cape Cod. In honor of Laura and Peaches birthdays, we headed out to P-town once again for a night of drunkeness and debauchery...and I would definitely have to say that we completed our mission! After a little pregaming, a bunch of us made our way to Governor Bradford's for another inspiring evening of drag queen karaoke. Let me just tell you, Tony's performance was simply amazing...it was definitely the best one of the night! However, our rousing rendition of "Peaches" by Presidents of the United States in honor of our own dear Peaches was quite fantastic as well, if I do say so myself! Unfortunately, in our drunkeness, Becca and I decided it would be fun to sing Summer Nights from Grease, and let's just say that it was not our best effort. :) Fear not! I'm quite sure that there will be many more drunken performances by the wonderful women of the Bourne house, so if you missed this one, rest assured that you will be able to partake of the experience another time. Let's see...the rest of the evening is something of a blur...we played a little pool, took a crapload of pictures, rocked out to The Offspring, and generally had a fantastic time...I may not have made the smartest of choices at all times, but alas! Such is life...hopefully I won't be such an idiot next time! :(

Anyway, if any of you have some other stories from last night, let me know!! 'Cause I know I missed some stuff, and I'm pretty sure there are things that I don't remember...

Wow...where to begin? After about a year in the real world, sitting in a cubicle for 8 hours a day staring at a computer screen, I finally said the hell with practicality...so here I am, a member of AmeriCorps, living with thirteen other twenty-somethings in an old house on Cape Cod, serving the community through environmental education, disaster preparedness and community outreach, and making basically no money. That said, I don't think I have ever been happier in my life. :) We've been here for a little over a month now, and I can honestly say that I have loved every minute of it so far. My housemates are incredible, the Wellfleetians are fantastic, and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking! I've learned how to use a pulaski, how to identify invasive species, how to respond to a marine mammal stranding, and countless other crazy skills that I never thought I would have. Plus, I just started serving as an Environmental Science teacher two days a week, which I'm sure will be fabulous! How sweet is that???

Now of course, what would life be like without the social aspect??? Thanks to our wonderful social coordinators, Mel and Molly, we've basically hung out just about every weekend. Btw...going out in Cape Cod is absolutely nothing like going out back in Rochacha. There are tons of sketchy old guys that like to stand around and drool when us girls head out for a night on the town. The majority of them are at least 50 years old, but that doesn't seem to stop them from trying to get us to dance, or trying to kiss Liz! But of course, not all the guys are sketchy and old...I met a great guy a few weeks ago, but unfortunately he's moving to Vermont next week...wtf? Sometimes the timing just sucks...but who knows what the future may bring? I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and what's meant to be will find a way to be, so I'm doing my best to live my life one day at a time and just see where it takes me...

Okay, enough of that little rant...This weekend marked my first experience of nightlife in P-town, and let me just tell you, it was wicked (as Kitty Kat would say)! I don't think karaoke will ever be complete without a drag queen again...nor will I forget the amazing drag queen that Mel and I met in the bathroom...craziness!!! Since the majority of my housemates disappeared for the weekend, Mel, Eric and I decided to join the Wellfleet house, and I must say...I heart our Wellfleetians!!! We had a fantastic time, and I definitely hope we can hang out there some more this weekend!

Well, I guess that's about it for now...hopefully I didn't bore you too much with my first attempt at blogging. You all rock my world!!!

PS - I went about 400 minutes over on my phone this month...oops!!! I guess I won't be doing anymore drunk dialing for a while!!!
